She attended Boston University and completed the Senior Management Institute of Police Training Program (SMIP). SMIP is designed to prepare today's executives for the challenges faced in a profession changing more rapidly than ever before. Captain Carranza has worked all investigative tables, a number of specialized units such as Robbery Homicide-Homicide Specials Section, Abused Child Unit, Narcotics, Traffic, supervised Senior Lead Officers, Special Problems Unit, Records, and the Crime Analysis Unit. She was a member of the Department's COMPSTAT Plus Inspection Team. She has served as the press information officer, and was one of the investigative members of a number of high profile cases such as the Ennis Cosby murder investigation and the North Hollywood Bank Shooting. She has also worked Internal Affairs Division both as an investigator and an Assistant Advocate.
