Thanks, Joshgeake. The link does work now. I ended up resolving the issue in the meantime. I didn't really care if it was 2005 or 2008 -- but wasn't having luck with either. What ended up helping me was what Nicholas Piasecki says at the very bottom here: Basically, I needed to upgrade the Edition before the Client Tools were even available for install.

Not very obvious. Once I did that (and I also made sure I had installed any available service packs for SQL Server), management studio was available and I was able to install it.
